I just spent several months in VZ on a US registered boat w/ no problems. I don't think you have to do anything. At least not in Margarite or Puerta la Cruz. Although it is getting more difficult to exchange US dollars for Bolivars these days. Chavez and Bush aren't getting along so great, yunno. Best of luck. It its mighty beautiful there!!And if you need any work done on the boat, Aqua Vi Marina and boat yard is the place to go! Buena Suerte.

Re entry into Venez....Your problem will be IMPORTING the boat into Venez. I suggest that you clear in as a tourista (specified visit period) and then see an Import Agent (Agencia de la Aduana) about the "tramites" to cheaply change the home port of the vessel to P La Cruz or wherever, and change the flag to Venez.....Remember, that if/ when you do this, to advise the USCG Documentation Center if it is a US Documented vessel, or you will incur a US fine, as you are taking it OUT of Documentation. State Registries in USA require nothing (don't renew) except that County Tax Assesors in Calif. will keep billing you, so best to advise them it is no longer in USA. It is IMPERATIVE that you NOT try to do the import without an Agent, or you are likely to incur a fine (Multa) or even expropriation of the ship. Buena Suerte---Capt.D.P.Allen PS It might be possible to get a temp. flag change via a Venez.ConsulGeneral in USA before you go, but if you do this, make sure to clear OUT of USA and get a temp USA Cruising Permit the moment you hoist the Venez. flag.. I have done this for owners, but it is dicey when en route in other countries....

Hi Guys, I was under the impression that a US documented vessel could not be owned by a non-US citizen so it would need to be "re-flagged" at time of purchase. Is this not correct?
