I am an American and I'm going to crew with a Canadian Capt on his Canadian registered boat. He wants to leave Florida and stop in Cuba on the way to the Virgin Islands. If we go to the Bahamas before and after cuba would I avoid the fines? He would be a singlehandler without me. Since maritime law requires a lookout, don't I have an argument that I am a required crewmember ?

You get a fine for visiting Cuba, better take the free bit out of your national anthem. I belive If you ask them nicely they will fail to stamp your passport. There is a peice on this on noonsite. Cheers
