Over the past year, many complaints about the majority of single male skippers looking for female partners. Our crew connection services turns into a "Personal Column" for dating services. By total surprise, I found a reply note to a forum topic at another sailing site saying "For a list of horny old men, check out the crewlist at 7knots.com"!!! What's your opinion on this issue and should we do anything about it?

For one, (not because I'm looking for one) I think it is legitimate to post such ads under the Crew Wanted list, as long as the main connection is still based upon sailing or cruising. Thank God, I haven't seen a title like: "SWM, 50 young, fit, looking for SWF"

Crew wanted is crew wanted... I don't see how you could restrict it by gender. Would you say you would accept only crew wanted ads from guys looking for guys??? Couples looking for couples, etc.? What's wrong with single folks looking for cruising partners on a web site that matches up boaters? I didn't realize this was a big deal, or maybe it's really not. I think it's a non-issue. If you don't like a crew wanted ad, just don't reply to it. Keith

I guess a female point of view may be helpful about now... I met my cruising partner/S.O. via CrewList/Personal ad in my favorite Sailing rag: Latitude 38 in the SF Bay Area. I think for they few of us cruising women, it's a great way to hook up with the man or the boat. There should be some way to make the difference distinct however. Something like I wrote, " ... possible LTR..." would be sufficient. Nancy Birnbaum S/V SAGA

It's not a problem. Maybe add a gender field like on the crew looking for boats. So those of us looking for boats can elimnate scanning through all the posts that are not for our gender. choices might include: all, male, female, couples.
