Skua is a Van de Stadt design, built in 1977 in Lanester (North of France) by the boat yard « Constructions Navales des Forges » who build more than 80 Orca. She is build in a very high quality steel “Nuance” E24I, extremely resistant to corrosion, used for train rail track, so it rusts on the surface, but does not goes deeper…. The engine a perking 4108 50 hp was change in 2010, and we have all spare part with join for a second engine accept the block. Right now the engine run as a clock. Her original engine was a 40 hp, she still register with a 40 hp, but the new engine is a 50 hp. The entire boat was treated with a “methagrip” cold sink treatment. It is great accept that paint do not stick to it below the waterline. Therefore Skua needs a new bottom paint. I am planning to do it in Fiji if she is not sold by then. I recommend to sandblast the surface and do a regular epoxy treatment. She survive 2 hurricanes and went into a reef in the past, she was well repair by one of the last owner who run Raiatea aluminum boatyard. She still has few bump below waterline, but nothing to worry. I own Skua in January 2013 in Raiatea where she is well known by local people, and sail with her all over French Polynesia (Marquises, Tuamotu, Tahiti moorea, Bora bora), than up to marshall islands via Cook islands, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Tuvalu and Kiribaties. Before me she was own by two well known sailors in French Polynesia, who sail her from France to Tahiti via the Caribbean, Patagonia and many other places. Right now we just arrives in Fiji after almost 2000 miles up wind from Marshall islands. We are about to haul out for a new bottom paint. She is ready for a long crossing up to New Caledonia, or anywhere the new owner would like to sail her. I am asking only 35 000 Euros, because I would like to sell her as soon as possible, so that we can concentrate into our new boat project. I am open for discussion if someone is interested for her as she is.
